Kenosha County has approved the Pike River South Branch Restoration Project, aimed at returning a 1.5-mile section of the river to its natural path while restoring adjacent wetlands and extending a multi-use trail. County Executive Samantha Kerkman emphasized its ecological importance for the community and Lake Michigan, as it will convert 215 acres of floodplain farmland into public parkland and reduce sediment runoff into the lake by about 1,000 tons annually. The project has received over $12.3 million in funding since 2016, contributing to ongoing environmental conservation efforts.
