Maryland has identified five watersheds for initial grant funding under the Whole Watershed Act, aiming to enhance economic benefits through watershed restoration. Governor Wes Moore emphasized that protecting Maryland’s natural resources will strengthen agriculture, tourism, and businesses. Cleaner waterways are expected to boost tourism, generating approximately $3.2 billion annually, and to improve the seafood industry valued at around $600 million. The selected watersheds include Antietam Creek, Baltimore Harbor, Newport Bay, the Severn River, and the Upper Choptank River. The Whole Watershed Act, enacted in 2024, promotes a collaborative approach to address environmental challenges and improve water quality in Maryland.
