The World Economic Forum’s Global Risks Report 2025 reveals escalating global challenges, notably rising geopolitical tensions, climate crises, and misinformation, as surveyed by over 900 leaders from various sectors. Immediate risks identified for 2025 include state-based armed conflict (23%), extreme weather events (14%), geo-economic confrontation (8%), misinformation (7%), and societal polarization (6%). Experts express concern over a “turbulent” outlook, highlighting a shift in risk perceptions, particularly with state conflicts reflecting tensions in regions like Ukraine and the Middle East.

Looking ahead to 2027, misinformation remains the top risk, followed by extreme weather and state-based conflict. By 2035, environmental issues are expected to dominate, with extreme weather, biodiversity loss, and resource shortages as primary concerns. AI also rises in significance, moving to the 6th position among long-term risks. The report emphasizes the urgent need for global collaboration to address these compounded risks and stresses the importance of managing emerging technological threats responsibly.
